After ten years of meticulous conservation, Tai Kwun, as the Central Police Station compound is known colloquially, has recently opened as Tai Kwun - Centre for Heritage and Arts. This largest revitalisation project in Hong Kong has drawn on the expertise of top international and local professionals, and the work was carried out in accordance with international best practice. The result is a new standard for heritage conservation in Hong Kong. Join this luncheon to learn about the revitalisation journey of Tai Kwun led by The Hong Kong Jockey Club in partnership with the HKSAR Government.

About Speakers:

Mr. Michael Moir
CPS Project Director of Hong Kong Jockey Club

Michael Moir is CPS Project Director at the Hong Kong Jockey Club responsible for the Central Police Station Conservation and Revitalisation Project, now operating as Tai Kwun. 

From 2010 to 2016 he was Director of Property at the Hong Kong Jockey Club overseeing the development and management of its portfolio of operational and investment properties. 

Between 2003 and 2009 he was a consultant to the Hong Kong Urban Renewal Authority, Hysan Development Company, Winsor Properties and the Hong Kong Jockey Club in Hong Kong and a number of property companies UK. 

From 2001 to 2003 he was Managing Director of PCCW Infrastructure, the property arm of the Pacific Century Group, and led the restructuring of its property business, following the merger of PCCW and the Hong Kong Telephone Company. 

In 2000 he was a consultant to the Hong Kong Housing Authority advising on its public housing development policies and practices. 

Prior to 1999 he was a Director and General Manager of Swire Properties. In his time with Swire he was responsible for acquisitions, disposals, valuations, planning and development of the company’s extensive property investment and development portfolios. 

On graduation in 1972 he joined Arup and spent 9 years in consulting engineering on a variety of projects in UK and Hong Kong. 

He holds a BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Aberdeen in 1972 and a Masters degree in Engineering from the University of Glasgow in 1977. 

He is an Honorary Fellow of the University College of Estate Management, a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors and a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
