Chairman Message - June 2019

2019-06-10

Dear members,

Summer has just started, with Dragon Boat Festival just passed and Father’s Day is coming. Don’t forget to spend some time with your family members during this special day despite your busy work schedules.

As you are aware, we have recently formed our new Advisory Board led by Sr. Marco Wu, and we had the welcome dinner in May with 6 Advisory Board members attended together with our Hon Legal Counsel, Mr. Fred Kan and our ExCom members. During the dinner we had good mutual understanding, interaction and initial brainstorming with the Advisory Board members regarding the positioning and on future development of our chamber. The dinner gathering laid down a good foundation for those ideas and topics to be discussed in more details at the 1st Advisory Board meeting that will be convened soon.

We had a fruitful month of May with a diversity of events. Just to name a few, the GBA visit series to Guangzhou / Nansha free trade zone received good response from members, with over 30 participants for the 3-day trip, visiting Government officials, business leaders and reputable developers for a more in-depth understanding of the recent development in these areas, and hope our members can further explore business opportunities in these areas.

We also pay much attention to the new technology that benefits our industry. Our Leaders of Tomorrow Committee has conducted a panel discussion on “PropTech to Redefine Real Estate”, with several industry experts to share their insights on the real estate market.

So what about International markets? Of course we won’t forget. Our International Committee has conducted an evening International Market Talk on Vietnam market. The event received overwhelming response from members, and I hope this would open the door or initiate interests for those who are interested to explore more opportunities in this new market.

It goes without saying that we continued to have excellent speakers’ series events, including Gurus' Breakfast Chitchat with topic “The Globalization of Student Accommodation” in May and "Outlook of Elderly Service in Hong Kong" in early June. And don’t miss the upcoming events in June: Quarterly Luncheon - HKHS Vertical Living: An Independent Living and Care Model; Monthly Sharing Luncheon - China Senior Living Market Update - Opportunities and Challenges; Gurus’ Breakfast Chitchat - The Future of Workspace.

Again, without the great efforts of our Vice Chairmen, ExCom members and especially your participation, we could not create all these successful events which I believe it shall have some takeaway or new knowledge for our members. Summer in Hong Kong is really hot, and our momentum to better serve our members will continue to be strong and hot!

Best Regards,

Dr. Charles Lam
